The R&B up-and-coming songstress Dounia released two music videos this week, surprising her ever-growing fandom with her newest single “LOWKEY GRL.”
Showcasing black-and-white nature shots for the first two minutes, Dounia glows in the middle of a forest as her shiny purse and jewelry shimmer in the light. She stays confident in herself throughout the song, letting the listener know that she won’t change her personality and future prospects for any relationship, “He said he wants a lowkey girl/Poor him ’cause he’s feeling me though.”
“LOWKEY GRL” is the second single after the release of 2019’s “ROYAL” and her 10-track sophomore EP The Avant-Garden, which featured the critically acclaimed single “Rich Girl Mood” featuring fellow R&B singer-songwriter, Kehlani. This fresh track continues to display Dounia’s genre-bending writing abilities and sultry vocals that fans can’t get enough of.
“Basically this is a song poking fun at people who say they want a lowkey girl but also an independent boss but also a loner with ample free time but also a social butterfly that commands the room but also…” Dounia told Complex.
Last October, she joined French singer-songwriter Christine and the Queens on a series of tour dates across North America, including sold-out shows in New York and Los Angeles.
